With the commencement of the first round of the 2016 MTTC Winter Pennant competition, we will get an opportunity to see the players represent their teams for the first time and begin perfecting their new doubles combinations and adjusting to the compositions of each Division.

In Division 1, leading player Shahram and his partner Terry of the Orcas will take on Mahmoud and Fabian of the Leopard Seals in a battle for round 1 supremacy. This match proves to be the pick of the round and will see elite spin masters Shahram and Mahmoud clash in what will surely be an unmissable spectacle. In addition, a classic 5-set thriller is expected when back-spin pro Terry takes on the aggressive top-spin smasher Fabian. Be sure to expect fireworks in these rubbers, but be aware that the true test will lie within the doubles, which will ensure the first victory for one of these titanic teams.

High quality Table Tennis will also be displayed when the rising stars George and Farshad of the Otters take on the experienced Dolphins team of Xu Dong and Justin. The Dolphins will seek victory within the doubles rubber where they hope to perfect a flawless doubles combination for the season. In contrast, George and Farshad will attempt to continue their stellar singles form, which was demonstrated in the 2016 Autumn Pennant. Each rubber will be highlighted by a clash between the top-spin orientated style of the Otters and the expertise of the Dolphins in implementing defensive, back-spin play.

The Sea Lions will be carefully watching their opponents compete within Division 1 and contemplate how they will approach the start to their season in round 2.

In Division 2, the Leopards will face off against the Pumas, whilst the Jaguars take on the Tigers and the Panthers challenge the Lions.

When the Lions take on the Panthers, the singles rubbers are set to be mesmerising, as close contests ensue between leading players Howard and Karem, and the rising Junior stars of Hamish and Oliver. However, to ensure victory the doubles rubber will be crucial and both teams will seek to establish a strong combination. Can Hamish and Howard of the Lions assert their dominance as Kings of the Division 2 pride? Or will Karem and Oliver of the Panthers pounce and secure their position as ladder leaders?

More sparks are set to fly in Division 2 when John and Alex of the Leopards challenge Shaine and Warren of the Pumas. Alex will be keen to continue his excellent form from the Autumn Pennant and lead his team to victory against newcomers Shaine and Warren. Whilst, Shaine and John are set to clash in an anticipated five-set thriller. Ultimately, Warren and Shaine will attempt to secure their first victory for the Pumas in the doubles rubber. Can the Pumas strike, or will the Leopards clamber atop the ladder and leave their competition behind?

Finally, father Glenn of the Tigers will face off against his son Jacob of the Jaguars, in what is set to be a crucial rubber that may determine the outcome of the match. In addition, the Table Tennis powerhouses of Bill and Arash will also clash in what is the must-watch clash of Division 2. Overall, this match will be one not to miss as the Tigers attempt to claw their way to victory.
