With the commencement of the second round of the 2015 MTTC Summer Pennant competition, we will get an opportunity to see the well rested bye-teams of Round 1 take on the veterans as the competition begins to warm up.
Looking at Division 1, the imposing and ladder leading team of the X-Men will seek to continue their good form against the well rested Terminators that are eager to compete in their first match of the season. Fabian of the Terminators will hope to improve upon his results against Bill whom he lost to within a emphatic 3 rubber match when he filled in for Geoff and the Titans last week against the X-Men. Bill will seek to lead his team to victory when he clashes with Abdullah and Fabian with both singles matches expected to be thrilling matches that cannot be missed! In addition, the doubles rubber between the two teams could go down to the wire and decide the result. So be sure to tune in to this clash as the X-Men seek to short circuit the Terminators.
Round 2 will also see the Storm and the Titans meet, with both teams attempting to revive their seasons and recover from first round loses. Former team mates Geoff and Paul will clash in what is shaping up to be a classic game with Geoff, well known for his quick and aggressive top spin attacks, coming up against the all-rounder and defensive expert of Paul. In addition, the Spring Pennant Premier players of Hiep and Phil will clash in their first ever singles rubber, which is sure to be crucial for their teams overall match result. Witness the storm brewing as Paul and Phil seek to fend off the historic Titans of Geoff and Hiep this Thursday evening.
Within Division 2, the Pelicans will seek out victory within their first match against the imposing Kingfishers. MTTC newcomer, Justin, will attempt to defeat the leading players of George and Tim, whilst Alex’s game has seen massive improvements that could enable him to upset his opponents and deliver the match for his team. We anticipate that the first look at the Pelicans will hold in store big things for later during the season. Overall, the doubles will be hotly contested and our pick of the round. Please join us to witness this ground breaking match as the Pelicans attempt to soar above the ladder leading Penguins.
Within the final match of Round 2, the ladder leading Penguins will look to continue their excellent form against the Kookaburras who will be seeking to make amends for their close Round 1 defeat to the Kingfishers. Hamish will measure the growth of his current excellent form when he comes up against former team mates Howard and John who are currently dominating the Summer competition. Anticipate a thrilling contest as well between the seasoned veterans of Alvarro and Howard. Overall, this match will be concluded within the doubles that will prove to be a close, five set thriller with both Alvarro and John being experts of doubles rubber tactics. Can the Kingfishers soar above the Penguins? Or will the Kingfishers be left high and dry.
This week the ladder leading Time Lords and the developing Cassowaries will be resting during a bye round and will watch intently the quality table tennis that is expected to be played out during Round 2.
